Buckcherry, Josh Todd and the Todd Entertainment Years
This page covers one narrow, documented slice of Buckcherry history: the years when the band was inactive and frontman Josh Todd and Todd Entertainment carried his career instead. It is not a general band biography.
Buckcherry's official website is separate from this site. This is an independent historical and educational page published by Investor Shield, and it is not an official Buckcherry page, nor operated or endorsed by the band.
The inactive period: 2002 into 2003
By 2002 Buckcherry was effectively a dead brand. The band had dissolved, the major-label relationship was gone, touring income had disappeared and there was no institutional financing behind a relaunch. Josh Todd was working as a carpenter while pursuing his next move.
Todd Entertainment LLC financed the solo project
Todd Entertainment, LLC was formed in Nevada on February 4, 2003 by Josh Todd and investor Todd Meagher, per the Nevada formation record. Their June 23, 2003 Todd Entertainment operating agreement documents 50/50 ownership: Todd contributed recording rights and exclusive professional services, Meagher contributed the capital and served as the company's Manager. During the marketing of the project, Todd was promoted as “Buckcherry frontman Josh Todd” — the band name carried commercial value even while the band itself was inactive.
Recording and releasing “You Made Me”
Investor capital produced 22 master recordings and the 2004 solo release “You Made Me,” along with the touring operation, band payroll and equipment around it. In July 2004 the project performed at the Rock Odyssey festival at Osaka Dome in Osaka, Japan, handled by Todd Entertainment's licensed booking agent.
The 2003–2005 transition and Josh Todd's return
After the venture rebuilt Todd's commercial momentum, the partnership collapsed and Todd returned to Buckcherry. The other musicians under contract to Todd Entertainment remained behind, with one notable exception: Stevie Dacanay, who had moved from guitar tech to guitarist in the Todd Entertainment-financed project during the 2004 Japan period and later became a guitarist in Buckcherry. Andrew Goodfriend, Todd Entertainment's licensed booking agent, also subsequently worked as a booking agent for Buckcherry.
What followed
In May 2009 a Talent Agencies Act petition was filed with the California Labor Commissioner, docketed as TAC No. 13418. The dispute over the venture's capital and assets ran for years. The complete documented account is in the full Josh Todd and Todd Meagher case study.
